AC blowing hot air? Causes and what to do
By Relax Aircon, Vadodara · Updated 28 October 2026 · About Azhar Munshi, the owner
When an AC runs but blows warm air, the fault is usually one of a few things. Some take two minutes to check; others need a technician with the right tools.
Check these first
- Remote: confirm the mode is Cool, not Fan, Dry or Auto, and the set temperature is below the room temperature.
- Filters: a clogged filter can stop cold air getting through. Wash it if it is grey with dust.
- Outdoor unit: make sure the fan is spinning and nothing blocks the airflow around it.
- Power: if the outdoor unit is silent while the indoor fan runs, the compressor is not starting.
Common causes
- Low refrigerant gas from a leak. Needs the leak found and fixed before gas filling.
- Compressor not starting because of a faulty capacitor or relay.
- Dirty outdoor coil, which stops the AC from getting rid of heat.
- Faulty sensor or control board, especially on inverter ACs.
- Reversing valve stuck in heating mode on a heat and cool model.
When to call a technician
If the filters are clean, the mode and temperature are right and the air is still warm, switch the AC off and call. Running it for long with a fault can damage the compressor. Our AC repair in Vadodara starts from ₹350 and gas filling from ₹2,500, with the price told before any work.
