How to clean your AC filters at home

Clean filters let air flow freely, so the AC cools better and uses less electricity. Cleaning them takes about 10 minutes and needs no tools.
Steps
- Switch the AC off and unplug it or turn it off at the switch.
- Open the front panel of the indoor unit and lift out the mesh filters gently.
- Tap off loose dust, then rinse under running water. Use a soft brush for stuck dust.
- Do not use hot water or harsh chemicals.
- Dry the filters fully in the shade before putting them back.
- Refit the filters, close the panel and switch the AC on.
How often
In Vadodara, wash the filters about every two weeks in summer, and more often if the AC runs all day or the house is near a busy road or construction.
What filters cannot do
Filter cleaning does not clean the indoor coil, the drain tray or the outdoor unit. If the AC still cools poorly, smells or leaks after cleaning the filters, it needs a full service. Our AC service in Vadodara starts from ₹350.
