Inverter vs non-inverter AC: which should you buy?

By Relax Aircon, Vadodara · Updated 26 October 2026 · About Azhar Munshi, the owner

The difference is how the compressor runs. A non-inverter AC switches the compressor fully on and off. An inverter AC changes the compressor speed to hold the temperature, which saves electricity when it runs for long hours.

Quick comparison

  • Running cost: inverter ACs use less electricity when used for many hours a day.
  • Purchase price: inverter models usually cost more upfront.
  • Cooling: inverter ACs hold a steady temperature, while non-inverter units cycle on and off.
  • Noise: inverter ACs are generally quieter once the room has cooled.
  • Repairs: inverter boards (PCB) cost more to replace than the simpler controls in non-inverter units.

Which one suits you

  • Bedrooms and offices used 8 or more hours a day: an inverter AC usually pays for itself in lower bills.
  • Guest rooms or spaces used a few hours a week: a non-inverter AC can be the cheaper choice overall.
  • Shops and clinics with long hours: inverter or cassette units, with a maintenance contract.

Installation and service matter more than the type

A poorly installed inverter AC will cool badly and cost more to run than a well installed non-inverter one. Whichever you choose, have it fitted properly and serviced twice a year. We install and service both types in Vadodara.
